Recently in an article, we talked about the removable backsplashes for the kitchen. In writing, I came across some lovely backsplash tiles, among these several that go very well with the French Country style, which, as anyone who has been following me for some time will know, is one of my favorite styles.

What is a backsplash?

The backsplash is nothing more than a vertical surface (generally tiles, bricks, marble, etc.) that protects the wall from any splashes of water or liquids. They are mainly used in the kitchen, above the sink and stove, in the bathroom, in the shower, on the sink, or generally on the whole or half vertical wall.

How does a French country style backsplash stand out?

Let’s start by saying there isn’t really a backsplash tile that we can define purely French country. Still, some tiles marry the style that can be adapted to the typical French country.

Tiles with a rustic or aged look lend themselves very well, as well as those with classic floral decorations on a white and blue base.

Even red bricks, preferably with an antique style, are perfect for the French Country style kitchen.

At the same time, for ceramic tiles, it is better to go for a beige or cream color but always with a rustic, almost discolored look.

For a more modern French country style, what can I use?

Suppose you want to modernize your French country kitchen. In that case, I suggest you choose white tiles like those in the photos, which are the best solution to avoid aesthetic damage and are certainly also the timeless choice par excellence.

Which backsplash material is the best?

In general, ceramic and porcelain are the best materials as it is possible to obtain the desired effect, but they also can be cleaned easily. At the same time, other more porous materials such as bricks or stones require a layer of waterproofing and a little more maintenance over time.

What color is preferable for the French Country backsplash?

As for the color of the backsplash, the general rule applies: dark kitchen countertop, light backsplash. If the countertop is light, then go for a darker backsplash.
