In today’s market, there are many to choose from, but my very favorite swimming pool is what I refer to as the “Hamptons style” swimming pool.
The Hamptons Style pool is all about simplicity and the natural environment. There is no decking, and the water is clear and calm.
What is it for those who are not familiar with the Hamptons style?
The Hamptons style is an American interpretation of the European garden style. The most recognized features of the Hamptons-style pool are its lack of a deck, its integral spa, and the use of a cobalt blue limestone.
This is a grey concrete material with bluestone coping surrounded by luscious green grass. No deck, not a lot of fancy adornments except for beautiful inlaid stones or bluestone steps leading to the simple crystal clear swimming pool. If you can stave off deer, there would ideally be a beautiful cascade of cobalt blue hydrangea and lots of green topiary and privet surrounding.
Most Hamptons Style pools do not have decking; instead, they are part of the garden experience with flowers and bushes like hydrangea surrounded with lots of greenery, hedgerow, privet, and boxwood edging and an integral part of the design.
Building and interior design trends come and go — but the Hamptons are staying and growing. The Hamptons style is a fantastic fit, timeless, graceful, elegant without being ostentatious, and with classic design elements that make its houses age gracefully.
A Hampton-style swimming pool typically features a short lawn area surrounding the pool, with a fence for privacy and a sofa or lounge area for relaxing. This type of pool is perfect for those who want to enjoy a swim in privacy while still being able to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
